The Believers' New Year "Blessed-Solutions"

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

2 Corinthians 4:16, 17

With the blessings of a New Year just days away, it is normal for us to pause, reflect and thank God for his steadfast love and tender mercies throughout the year which is passing. It was a year of highs and lows, of setbacks and triumphs for many.

But what do us as believers resolve to achieve and become in the New Year? Paul gives us a clue by pointing us inward. The believer’s trust is in Christ, whatever the year or season, and regardless of any external gains from our physical environment. We are being renewed daily by the Holy Spirit.

We who are of Christ may declare our “blessed-solutions” rather than resolutions! What we desire for our lives is of a higher and supernatural order than mere earthly declarations. Our “solution” to our challenges rest in our blessedness as a peculiar people of the kingdom of God.

Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness!

Therefore, our “blessed-solutions” for the New Year include:

  • We don’t resolve to lose weight but aim for the blessings of good body, mind and spirit health.

  • We don’t resolve for the perfect mate but rather through Christ we become the perfect mate we desire.

  • We don’t resolve for financial freedom but rather we are determined to give more of our time, talent and tenth.

With this attitude, our eternal glory outweighs our momentary afflictions.

Amen
